Paver Patio Project

Tagged:  •    •

I completed my first attempt at a hardscape project this past week, which is really interesting when you consider the fact that I started and subsequently decided to bail out on my own hardscape construction business during the past month. I’m a whacko. Anyway, I think the job turned out nice and for the time being I will retain my title of Jack of All Trades, Master of None. See for yourself:

Before...

Before - sidewalk and flower bed

After...

After - paver patio

This job was for my Mom and she and I were really happy with how it turned out. I even installed the lamp, including running the electric out there. It almost makes me want to change my mind (again) about the hardscape business, especially because I’ve been offered three big hardscape jobs in the past two days. But who knows what will happen. Although I’ve sent out resumes for electrical engineering jobs, I only have one interview scheduled so far. That interview is scheduled for Monday with this company for a Systems Engineer position, so what I'm doing over the next weeks and months may have a lot to do with what happens in that interview. I'm optimistic about it, but I’m not officially turning away any hardscape work until I get a definite offer.

I know the homeowner was thrilled with how this turned out, because she's been gushing to me about it. But this is the first time I've gotten to see pictures. It's awesome! I'm struck but how straight, plain, and obvious the little concrete sidewalk looks in the before. The final does the same thing, but it's classy and adds the function of a front porch without having to install a full porch. In fact, does this style have a name? I'm not really familiar with it, but it really works. Maybe it'll be the hot new thing in the hardscaping industry. As I type this, your last.fm is playing Leonard Cohen, and so I feel like this is really sad. But it's not.

Fantastic job Jim. That looks amazing. What a huge difference! Are you sure you really want to be an engineer?

The pictures are great and seeing the work in person...even better. What a perfect addition, the curb appeal is amazing. Where did you learn how to do this anyhow? Considering you are an engineer, musician, web designer entrepreneur and so much more...could you list the things you are really bad at just to convince me you are well rounded:-) No really...I am waiting to see the list...

dude, when I saw this post long ago I only saw the "before" picture on the home page. I saw the "After" wording, but alas, no photo. So I waited. And waited. Still no photo! I, uh, just figured out your blog doesn't list the whole entry at once and I had to click to see the rest. I'm new to all this internets.

With that piece of stupidity admitted...your hardscape job looks great! I'm not surprised.

The name is, Dumas.
