I'm leaving for Cancun in the morning and as usual before a trip like this, I can't sleep. I have to leave at about 5:30am to catch my flight out of Dulles, so I probably won't end up sleeping much at all. Half of my problem is my anxiety. I think that comes from relinquishing control of the tedious details of my life to others. I mean, feeding the dogs and operating the TV and air conditioning is all serious business folks. Nobody can do it like I can. No, the reality is that I'm a control freak and chronic over-explainer, so me preparing for a trip probably causes more annoyance for my friends and family than it does anxiety for me. But I try to keep some perspective. Once I'm on that plane, I'm in a different mindset all together. I'm an international man of mystery and there's no telling what I'm going to do or where I'm going to go. Well sometimes that's true, but this particular time I'm going straight to my hotel to meet up with a wedding party. I'll save the assassinations and jewel heists for next trip. The other half of my no-sleep problem is just the plain old Christmas-morning-when-you-were-6-years-old excitement. The wedding is for Lana & Brian and I'm so happy I'll be there for that. But this is also great timing for me and Lia to have a really romantic week together in a romantic place. I'm so fortunate to be in a position to take the time to go and I know we're going to have a ball while we're there.
