Weekend at Rehoboth Beach

On the rare occasion that I make a post here, I seem to be running a week behind. Time for a catch up post. For what it's worth, my thinking is that in the fall I'll start writing more meaningful posts rather than just occasional updates on what I'm doing. In the meantime, I just wanted to upload a few photos to flickr and get this thing up to date.

Lia and I went to Rehoboth Beach this past weekend to visit Dad for an early Father's Day kind of deal, see Grandma in the nursing home, and try to get in some beach time as long as we were there. It was great to see Dad and we got together for dinner one day and breakfast another. He's doing amazingly well six months after having a six-way heart bypass. Visiting Grandma was nice, but it's kind of tough seeing her in the nursing home. A year and a half ago she was at home and basically seemed fine. Now she has mid-stage Alzheimer's and doesn't remember my name. It's hard for anyone to deal with that kind of situation, as so many people do, but it's even harder when it happens so quickly. Donnie and Nicole seemed to be doing well and their new puppy is a maniac! Overall it was a good to visit and it's always good to be at da oshin! Lia was her usual amazing self, staying very patient, upbeat, and supportive throughout nursing home visits, meeting new family members, and a dash of family drama, which I wont get into ;)

Even though we had fun and made the best of it all, it wasn't the best beach weekend I've ever had. Specific criticisms: 1) It was fucking cold! We tried two days in a row to lay out on the beach and ended up having to cover up in towels because it was so chilly and windy. It's June god dammit! Oh well, you can only bitch about the weather so much. 2) We saw Love, Seed, Mama, Jump at the Bottle and Cork and despite having been told by several people whose musical opinions I respect that this is a great live band, I thought they totally sucked. Horrible song selection for a cover band (I'm sick to death of bands who play the same old, tired cover songs as every other cover band), and the singer can't hit a high note to save his life. Plus we had to pay $4 a pop for Miller Lite cans AFTER paying a cover. The B&C is still one of my favorite bars at the beach though. 3) We had dinner at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach and it was the worst dinner I've had in years. The atmosphere was terrible, the service sucked, and the food was crap, even with prices on par with restaurants like McCormick & Schmick's or Houston's.

Ok, the good stuff: 1) I have so much fun doing anything with Lia. Hell, I have fun going to the grocery store with her, so a road trip was just awesome. 2) The dogs got to go to the beach and it was Bodie's first time playing in the ocean. New pics posted of that. 3) Lia and I bought cool shit for our trip to Mexico at the Gap & Calvin Klein Outlets 4) It's always good to see my family and it makes me feel more grounded.

Oh, I forgot to mention the Mexico thing too: Lia and I are going to Cancun for a week! She's been planning to go for a while for her sister's wedding, but we found out just recently that Lia's friend would not be able to go, so I was able to take her spot. I'm totally excited. My second trip out of the country this year and it's only June. Check out where we're staying. Between my travels, my girlfriend, new friends and parties, and life in general, this is shaping up to be a really great year for me.
