I think I could write a book just about the trip over here, but I'm going to keep it to a minimum for now because I'm so tired I can't think straight. The trip took a total of 30 hours. Those 30 hours have been packed with a lot of sensory input, to say the least. Right now I'm at an internet cafe in Galle and it's about 4:30 on a very humid Friday afternoon. I think it's probably more humid than usual because we just had a heavy rain for an hour or so and now the sun is back out. So...general thoughts? Well for starters it's amazingly beautiful where I'm at right now. My hotel room opens to a beachside courtyard and there are coconut trees everywhere. The 5-hour drive down to Dalawella was beautiful almost the entire way too, but everywhere was evidence of the tsunami. I can't even get into that right now, but it is awful. Let's see. What else? The way people drive here is absolutely insane. Have you ever had one of those moments where you were just sooooo close to getting into a car accident? One of those moments where you take a huge gasp and almost break the steering wheel in your hands after barely missing another vehicle or it missing you? Well that happens about every 2 to 3 minutes on the roads around here. We actually wrecked a little bit within 5 minutes of me getting into a car. We got pinned against a curb by a bus, but no significant damage was done. I'm very glad I'm here, but I'm still so overwhelmed with how different everything is that it'll take me a while to absorb what the heck is going on here.

I'm so glad to know you got there safely. This blog thing is great for letting me know you are OK. LU
Wow! I'm glad you arrived safe and sound. I can't wait to hear more. Were you driving or was someone driving you from the airport? I hope you took your camera!
