I bought a house

I just bought my first home and I'm totally excited. The event prompted me to go ahead start this blog, which I've been wanting to do for quite a while, but I'll write about that in a separate post. I'm going to create a separate category in this blog just for stuff having to do with my house and pending renovation projects because I expect that to be the focus of my attention for the next year or so.

So the house is great and I think I got a great deal, in spite of the housing market in my area being very much a seller's market. I live in the Washington, DC suburbs and it's just crazy what people are paying for houses around here. In some cases people are bidding tens of thousands of dollars over the asking price of a home and the seller is receiving multiple offers within days of listing. Good if you're the seller - bad if you're me trying buy a house for the first time. I went with a house that needs a substantial amount of work, but it's in a really great neighborhood. It's the classic "crappiest house on the nicest block" kind of deal that's supposed to be smart if you get a good price and know how to use tools and stuff. We'll see how that goes.

Here's my new house:

My contract is contingent on a home inspection and I'm meeting the home inspector on Friday. I'm bringing my new digital camera to the inspection, so I'll have lots more pics to post after that.
