osCommerce, Google Adsense, and mo' money

I've been working hard on my ecommerce site, which, although I haven't mentioned it yet, is my bread and butter and the main thing I spend my time on day to day. The project right now is to re-develop my site on a much more robust platform. I'm switching from a crappy, novice level shopping cart system called eDatCat to osCommerce, which is a much higher end ecommerce solution in a PHP/MySQL environment. Don't get me wrong; eDatCat is ok for what it is, but the support is terrible and I found it very limiting as my business has grown. In my opinion osCommerce is the best solution when you're a small-time operator who wants a sophisticated ecommerce platform. And it's open source (free). It's pretty tough learning PHP, however, when I really just want to run my business. It'll be worth it though. Just being in a PHP/MySQL environment will make things way more effecient. I think my customers will like it too.

The other really cool thing I've been working on is putting Google Adsense ads on a bunch of my affiliate sites. You can see them at the top of this site too. It's so smart because the ads are served contextually, meaning that Google reads the content of my page and displays an ad that's relevant. I've just been doing it for a month and a half, and I've already had days where I made more than $80. I'm averaging about $45 a day. When you can do a couple hours work and add that much to your income, it's definitely a good time.

Oh, I also have to give a shout-out to the great folks over at Italian Cooking & Living. They recently featured one of my products in their magazine and I've had some nice sales as a result. I'll make sure to take special care of their readers when they call. Free advertising is so fun.
